2023 Call For Nominations
Dear Members:
In accordance with our Bylaws, a Nominating Committee was appointed by the SWVA-CAI Board of Directors to submit a slate of candidates to the membership at least 75 days prior to the date of the Board of Directors election, Friday, December 2, 2022, to fill three vacant board positions. The Nominating Committee was further advised that the nominees must be one Volunteer member, one Member at Large and one Business partner members. The following is the committee’s candidates for the current openings:
Open - Business Partner Member Three-year term
Open - Member at Large Three- year term
Mike Short - Volunteer Member Three-year term
If you would like to have your name placed on the ballot, please complete the enclosed petition. The petition must be returned to the Nominating Committee no later than October 14, 2022. If petitions are received by the date indicated, the Nominating Committee will submit to the members a written ballot containing the names of all eligible nominees. However, if no petitions are received by the Nominating Committee then on the election date, Friday, December 2, 2022, the SWVA-CAI Board of Directors Secretary shall cast a unanimous ballot for the slate of nominees presented by the Nominating Committee and such nominees shall be declared elected Directors of the Southwestern Virginia Chapter Community Associations Institute.
The Board of Directors and Committee Chairs are looking for new volunteers in 2023. As a volunteer organization, we pride ourselves in bringing our members quality education programs, legislative representation, and advocacy support. We are successful because of volunteers like you. Nomination and Election of Directors.
a. Except as otherwise provided in these Bylaws, each Member in good standing shall be eligible for nomination to serve as a Director. Nominations of individuals to serve as Directors shall be made by the nominating committee in accordance with these Bylaws and such rules and procedures as may be established from time to time by the Board of Directors. Nominations of individuals to serve as Directors may also be made by written petition signed by Five (5) Members.
b. The Nominating Committee shall submit to the Members at least 75 days before the date set for the election of Directors a written report specifying the Director Election Date and setting forth a slate of nominees to serve as Directors. Such slate shall be comprised of one nominee for each of the available seats on the Board of Directors that are to be filled. The slate shall designate the Membership Representation Group to be represented by each nominee. Petitions for nominees to serve as Directors must be received by the nominating committee at least 45 days before the election date. If any petition is received within such time, the nominating committee shall, at least 30 days before the election date, submit to the Members a written ballot containing the names of all eligible nominees, indicating, for each nominee, whether he or she was nominated by the nominating committee or by petition. The ballot shall indicate the date by which it must be returned in order to be counted and such other information as may be required by state law. The persons receiving the most votes shall be elected.
c. If no petitions are received by the nominating committee within the time prescribed in these Bylaws, then, on the election date, the Secretary shall cast a unanimous ballot for the slate of nominees nominated by the nominating committee and such nominees shall be declared elected Directors of the Chapter.
